The office must respond to your request within five working days under Virginia Code Section 2.2-3700 et seq.. Day one is the day after they get the request. If the office cannot respond in time, it may take seven more working days, for a total of twelve. Written notice is required if the five-day window cannot be met. The office will explain the conditions that make a timely response impossible.

Warren County Police Records Fees

Warren County has a clear fee schedule for police records. Black and white copies up to 11x17 cost $0.10 per page. Color copies of the same size run $0.20 per page. Copies larger than 11x17 are $2.50 per page. If you want records on a CD or DVD, the cost is $1.00 per disc. A flash drive costs $4.00. Postage is charged at actual cost.

Insurance reports have a separate fee of $8.00 per report. If the total estimated cost goes past $200, the office will ask for a deposit before work begins. Any past due bills must be paid before the office will process new requests. These fees are set to cover the actual cost of staff time and materials, as required by Virginia FOIA.

Note: The Warren County Sheriff's Office stresses that law enforcement and courts will never demand payment or personal information over the phone or by text. If someone calls claiming to be from the Sheriff's Office asking for money, it is a scam.

How to Request Warren County Police Records

Warren County offers several ways to submit a FOIA request. The NextRequest online portal is the fastest option. It lets you file, track, and receive records electronically. You can also submit requests by mail, email, phone, fax, or in person at the Sheriff's Office. Virginia law does not require written requests, but having a paper trail helps if there is a dispute later.

When you file, be specific about the records you want. Include the person's full name, the date or date range, and the type of record. The Warren County Sheriff's Office maintains several categories of public records. These include reportable incident reports, criminal incident information, and adult traffic summons and arrest reports. Juvenile records are not available to the public.

Virginia State Police Background Checks
